Location: Teesside and Darlington

What does your role involve?

I’m here to guide employers on apprenticeships, showing how they can be used to create a skilled workforce and bridge the skills gap in the area. A key element of my role is to build relationships with companies across the region and develop opportunities for young people, helping them kickstart their career!

What skills, experience or services can you offer North East businesses?

I’ve developed extensive knowledge of the area and of apprenticeships, which I can use to help produce strategies to develop your team – as well as providing a cracking brew and a friendly face!

I’ve been a Business Consultant for Baltic for over a year, working across Teesside and Wearside. I’ve got such a passion for the Teesside area and the companies we have here, that when the Employer Engagement Manager role came up, it was too good an opportunity to miss!

What’s the best bit about your job?

Too many to choose from, but the biggie would be seeing a candidate start their career with an apprenticeship, and then go on to excel in their role when they complete! I also love being part of a fabulous team of dedicated and passionate people.

What’s your North East hidden gem?

To stay loyal to my local area, I’d have to say Hardwick Park. I’m so lucky to have such a beauty spot on the doorstep. But for a bit of scran I love a Tango’s in Durham!

Who is your tech hero?

Ada Lovelace. She was a Victorian who is cited as the first computer programmer. She wrote the first algorithm to be published – basically an early model for the computer and software!

What’s your favourite local landmark?

Durham Cathedral.

What’s your go-to Karaoke tune?

Anything Fleetwood Mac and I love a bit of Jessie’s Girl by Rick Springfield.

Potentially divisive… but what’s your North East football allegiance?

Newcastle United, cheers dad!

What does the future hold for the North East tech sector?

The North East is set to be the biggest tech area after London, so the opportunities for growth and talent in the region are going to be huge. Middlesbrough is en route to becoming a Digital City, and it’s such an exciting and monumental time for Teesside. It’s an amazing opportunity to show the rest of the world what we can do!

How can a Baltic Apprentice change the world?

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

Baltic Apprenticeships offer the training, tools and support that each candidate needs for a long-term career, not just a job. By developing young people into critical thinkers, problem solvers and team player we will set them up for the world of work and ensure the longevity of your workforce for years to come!
