People are at the heart of everything we do. From supporting learners to achieve their career ambitions to investing in the development and wellbeing of our own colleagues, we believe creating lasting social value starts with people. By fostering an inclusive culture, removing barriers to opportunity and creating clear pathways for growth, we help individuals, employers and communities thrive.

Reducing Our Environmental Impact and Building a More Sustainable Future

Environmental responsibility is fundamental to how we operate and how we support the organisations we work with. We recognise that creating lasting environmental impact requires more than setting targets – it requires meaningful action, transparent reporting and continuous improvement. From reducing our own operational footprint to helping employers build sustainability capability, we’re committed to embedding sustainability across our operations, governance and decision-making.

We reduce our environmental impact by:
🎯 Working towards a 25.2% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030, in line with our Carbon Reduction Plan and UK Government PPN 006.
🎯 Progressing towards Net Zero by 2045, supported by clear milestones and regular reporting.
🎯 Investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency, including 172 solar panels, LED lighting and EV charging infrastructure.
🎯 Delivering predominantly digital learning and supporting hybrid working to help reduce travel-related emissions.
🎯 Measuring and reporting our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, improving transparency and accountability across our operations.
🎯 Embedding sustainability into supplier selection and procurement, encouraging responsible practices throughout our supply chain.
🎯 Reducing waste through recycling, our zero-waste-to-landfill commitment and a continued focus on resource efficiency.

🎯 Working with employers and regional skills partners to ensure our training reflects local labour market needs and future workforce demands.
🎯 Supporting organisations of all sizes, including SMEs, to develop the skills needed for long-term growth, innovation and productivity.
🎯 Creating meaningful career opportunities through apprenticeships, paid placements and clear progression pathways.
🎯 Measuring the impact of our programmes through employment, progression and economic outcomes, ensuring we deliver lasting value for learners, employers and communities.
🎯 Partnering with further education colleges to expand access to specialist digital and technical skills, helping more learners and employers benefit from high-quality training.

Creating Greater Impact Through Collaboration

We believe lasting impact is achieved through strong partnerships. By working collaboratively with employers, education providers, charities and community organisations, we help create opportunities, strengthen skills and maximise the social value generated through apprenticeships and workforce development.

We create lasting impact by:
🎯 Partnering with employers to develop future-ready workforces and address regional skills needs.
🎯 Expanding access to specialist digital and technical training through partnerships with further education colleges and education providers.
🎯 Delivering Fund Forward, our national apprenticeship levy transfer initiative, helping employers redirect unused levy funding to charities and third-sector organisations to create new apprenticeship opportunities.
🎯 Working with schools, colleges and community organisations to inspire future talent and improve access to careers in digital, data, AI and sustainability.
🎯 Encouraging colleagues to give back through volunteering and community initiatives that create positive local impact.
🎯 Sharing knowledge and best practice across apprenticeships, sustainability and workforce development to help strengthen the wider skills sector.

Top 50 SME Apprenticeship Employer

We lead by example and invest in our own people in the same way we encourage employers to invest in theirs. Developing apprentices within our own workforce gives us first-hand experience of the learner journey and reinforces our commitment to apprenticeships as a driver of long-term career development.

In July 2026, Baltic Apprenticeships was named one of the UK Government and Higherin’s Top 50 SME Apprenticeship Employers. The ranking recognises employers that demonstrate excellence in developing apprentices within their own workforce, taking into account achievement, diversity, apprentice experience and the proportion of employees undertaking apprenticeships.

Flexible Working & 4.5 Day Working Week

Our flexible working approach is designed to promote wellbeing, improve work-life balance and empower employees to perform at their best.

Alongside a 4.5-day working week with no reduction in pay, our team benefit from hybrid working arrangements, enhanced annual leave, regular early finishes and a range of wellbeing initiatives that provide greater flexibility throughout the year.

These benefits form part of our wider commitment to attracting, developing and retaining talented people, creating a positive workplace culture that supports long-term employee wellbeing and enables our teams to continue delivering exceptional outcomes for learners and employers.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

Ecologi Partnership (3,000+ Trees Planted)

Our partnership with Ecologi enables us to turn learner engagement into positive environmental action. Throughout the apprenticeship journey, learners are encouraged to share feedback on their experience, helping us continually improve the support and training we provide.

In recognition of this engagement, we fund the planting of trees through Ecologi, supporting certified climate projects and global reforestation initiatives.

To date, we’ve funded the planting of more than 3,000 trees, creating a lasting environmental impact while reinforcing our commitment to listening to our learners and continuously improving the experience we deliver.

Rooftop Solar System with 172 Solar Panels

Baltic Apprenticeship’s HQ is powered in part by 172 rooftop solar panels, helping to reduce our reliance on grid electricity and lower the environmental impact of our day-to-day activities.

The system offsets approximately 15 tonnes of CO₂ each year, demonstrating our commitment to reducing operational emissions, minimising our carbon footprint and supporting our long-term net zero ambitions.

This commitment is reflected not only in how we operate, but also in the training we deliver. Through our Sustainability for Business Impact apprenticeship, we support employers to build the skills, knowledge and capability needed to embed sustainability and drive long-term environmental improvements within their own organisations.

ECONOMIC IMPACT & SKILLS

Supporting SME Growth with Apprenticeship Training

Small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of the UK economy, accounting for the vast majority of businesses and employing millions of people across the country.

Supporting SMEs is central to our social value commitment, and today 65% of the employers we work with are small and medium-sized businesses, reflecting our commitment to helping them develop the skills they need to grow and thrive.

By enabling SMEs to recruit, develop and retain skilled employees, we’re helping employers address skills shortages, improve productivity and build long-term resilience. In turn, this creates sustainable employment opportunities, strengthens local economies and contributes to long-term economic growth across the UK.

PARTNERSHIPS & COMMUNITY

Creating Inclusive Pathways into Data Careers

In partnership with Serco, Baltic Apprenticeships designed and delivered Innovate – a women-only data apprenticeship programme that provides women Serco with the opportunity to develop technical skills, build confidence and progress into data-focused careers.

The programme generated exceptional interest, with more than 200 colleagues attending information sessions for just 14 places, highlighting both the demand for technical development and the value of creating inclusive progression opportunities within the workplace.

Innovate demonstrates how apprenticeships can be used to widen participation, remove barriers to technical careers and support greater representation in technology. By investing in existing employees and creating clear progression pathways, the programme is helping Serco build a more diverse, future-ready workforce while empowering more women to pursue careers in data.

Supporting our Local Community

Creating positive social impact extends beyond skills development. As headline sponsor of the Middlesbrough Half Marathon 2026, Baltic partnered with local charity Doorways Middlesbrough to raise awareness and funds for people experiencing homelessness and hardship across the Tees Valley.

The initiative brought together colleagues, employers and the wider community around a shared purpose. The campaign raised a total of £1,895 to support Doorways’ vital frontline services, helping provide hot meals, clothing, bedding and essential items to people who need them most.

The Middlesbrough Half Marathon is just one example of our wider commitment to supporting the communities we serve. Over the last 18 months, Baltic has donated more than £10,700 to charitable causes, alongside volunteering our time, supporting local food banks through The Teesside Charity, and working with organisations such as the Great North Air Ambulance Service to create lasting, positive impact across our region.
