The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about technology and keen to build a long-term career in IT. They will need communication skills, as they will be speaking with users and team members daily, and excellent attention to detail, ensuring issues are logged, investigated, and resolved accurately. The successful apprentice will be joining a supportive and collaborative team who are passionate about sharing knowledge and helping each other grow. At CenCom, no question is too small, and the apprentice will be encouraged to learn from experienced engineers while contributing to real client work from day one.

As part of their development, the apprentice will receive structured training through Baltic Apprenticeships, including dedicated 2-day training blocks every 4–6 weeks, alongside hands-on experience in the workplace. This blended approach ensures they gain both practical skills and industry-recognised knowledge to kickstart a career in IT.

In this role, you’ll work towards your Level 3 Data Technician qualification, delivered by our expert training team at Baltic Apprenticeships 

A Typical Day in the Job:  

  • Work with security processes including MFA, BitLocker, anti-virus configuration, and group policy implementation.
  • Follow and interpret technical documentation stored in OneNote, including network diagrams, security policies, and client approval processes.
  • Escalate technical issues to the Line Manager where required and maintain documentation accuracy.
  • Support hardware setup and configuration in a dedicated lab environment.
  • Assist logistics operations by updating systems and resolving technical issues.
  • Work with network infrastructure including switches, VLAN configuration, and cloud-based environments.

Full training and support will be provided by your workplace mentor and from the team at Baltic Apprenticeships.  

Desired Qualities, Skills and Knowledge  

  • Understanding of IT support principles.
  • Experience or exposure to Windows operating systems and desktop support.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues using tools such as Task Manager and remote access tools.
  • Basic networking skills (e.g. VLANs, switches, IP addressing, wireless networking).
  • Good communication skills for supporting users via phone, email, and remote tools.
  • Ability to work independently and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Attention to detail when updating and maintaining documentation.
  • Grade 4 in GCSE Maths & Grade 5 in GCSE English.

Salary, Hours & Benefits:  

  • £19,000-£20,500 per annum.
  • 29 days annual leave plus bank holidays.

This apprenticeship programme will provide you with everything you need to launch and develop your career in data. Afterwards, we’ll support you to take the next steps, including further training and progression onto a Level 4 qualification.
