Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation (DCSF) is a thriving educational community with a long history of providing an ambitious and enriching environment for pupils and staff. Bringing together Chorister School and Durham School, DCSF operates across multiple sites and relies on a robust, secure and reliable IT infrastructure to support teaching, learning and the day-to-day running of the Foundation.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated IT Apprentice to join our IT team and develop practical skills across a broad range of technologies. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in IT and gain hands-on experience within a busy educational environment.

In this role, you’ll work towards your Level 3 Information Communication Technician qualification, delivered by our expert training team at Baltic Apprenticeships.

A Typical Day in the Job:

  • Support the management, maintenance and security of the organisation’s network infrastructure.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity and infrastructure issues.
  • Manage user access, permissions and device security.
  • Configure and maintain networking equipment.
  • Maintain physical and virtual IT infrastructure.
  • Support cloud services and cloud-based technologies.
  • Manage and respond to service desk tickets within agreed service levels.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation.
  • Assist with network security activities and operational processes.
  • Support network operations and system administration activities.
  • Gain practical experience with cloud technologies and security management.
  • Assist with infrastructure projects and technical improvements.

Full training and support will be provided by your workplace mentor and from the Baltic team.

Salary, Hours & Benefits:

  • £15,600 per annum
  • Monday – Friday – 8.30AM – 16.30PM
  • 52 weeks per year
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays

Desired Qualities, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Enthusiasm for technology and IT.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Well organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware and software.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365.
  • An interest in networking, cybersecurity or cloud technologies.
  • Experience using IT equipment within an educational environment.
  • A Grade 5/C in English and a Grade 4/C in Maths at GCSE is required for this role.

This apprenticeship provides the skills, qualification and experience you need to immerse yourself within an exciting, fast-moving industry and become an effective IT Support Technician.
