As our IT Apprentice, you'll work alongside knowledgeable professionals who are committed to supporting your development. You'll gain hands-on experience across a range of IT support activities, developing practical skills while making a real contribution to the University community. We're looking for someone with a genuine interest in IT, a willingness to learn, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and excellent communication skills.
Alongside your day-to-day role, you'll complete your apprenticeship with Baltic Apprenticeships, attending dedicated two-day training blocks, online, every 4–6 weeks. These sessions, combined with ongoing workplace learning and mentoring, will give you the knowledge, skills, and confidence to launch a successful career in IT.
In this role, you’ll work towards your Level 3 Information Communications Technician qualification, delivered by our expert training team at Baltic Apprenticeships.
A Typical Day in the Job:
- Providing first line IT support to staff, students and visitors across the University.
- Assisting with troubleshooting common IT issues, setting up equipment, supporting teaching spaces and helping maintain the University's environment.
- Working under the supervision of experienced technicians
- Gaining experience across multiple areas of IT Services and will be supported to develop the professional skills required to progress into a technical support role.
- Day-to-day support in line with the IT Customer Support Team Lead and Head of IT Services.
- Developing practical skills in IT service delivery, customer support, and system administration.
Full training and support will be provided by your workplace mentor and from the team at Baltic Apprenticeships.
Desired Qualities, Skills and Knowledge
- Interest in information technology and a desire to build a career in IT.
- Experience of using computers and common software applications such as word processing, email, and web browsers.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and systems.
- Ability to work responsibly in an environment handling confidential information.
- Experience of using technology to solve problems in everyday situations, whether through study, personal use, or informal support to others.
- Experience of using Windows operating systems.
- Basic understanding of computer hardware components and peripherals.
- Basic awareness of how networks and internet connectivity support modern IT services.
- Grade 4 in GCSE Maths & Grade 5 in GCSE English
Salary, Hours & Benefits:
- £16,000 – £18,000 per annum

This apprenticeship programme will provide you with everything you need to launch and develop your career in IT support. Afterwards, we’ll support you to take the next steps, including further training and progression onto a Level 4 qualification.
Your Training with Baltic Apprenticeships
This Level 3 apprenticeship provides everything you need to immerse yourself in the exciting world of technology and launch a rewarding career in IT.
You’ll get hands-on experience in all areas of technical support, from configuring devices to supporting with software, optimising performance and setting up virtual environments. With our unique curriculum and one-to-one support, you’ll accelerate your skills and get the qualification and confidence you need to thrive in IT.
You’ll be based full time with an employer and will quickly become an important part of the team. Our training is 100% online, including real-time classes with our expert trainers and self-paced courses created by industry specialists.
