Are you interested in software development, enjoy solving problems and want to start or change your career in technology? This is an exciting opportunity to join Route 101, a forward-thinking technology solutions provider, as a Software Development Apprentice, becoming part of its exciting Innovation Hub.

Route 101 helps businesses improve their operations and customer experiences through innovative software and cloud-based solutions. The Innovation Hub is focused on exploring new ideas, embracing emerging technologies and developing innovative solutions. You’ll join a collaborative team where curiosity, creativity and continuous improvement are encouraged, with opportunities to experiment with artificial intelligence (AI) and discover how it can be used to create smarter, more efficient software and enhance customer service.

As part of the Innovation Hub, you’ll gain hands-on experience across front-end and back-end development, learning to build user-friendly applications and contribute to real software projects. You’ll explore how AI can be integrated into customer service solutions, including the emerging field of agentic software engineering, developing software that uses AI systems to carry out tasks. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your technical skills, bring new ideas to life and contribute to the future of software development.

Alongside your practical experience, you’ll work towards a Level 4 Software Development Technician qualification, delivered by the expert training team at Baltic Apprenticeships. You’ll have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, develop your confidence and build a strong foundation for a career in software development as part of Route 101’s Innovation Hub.

  • Version Control, Testing & Quality Assurance: Use Git to manage code and collaborate with developers, participate in peer and code reviews, carry out unit and integration testing, identify bugs and help deliver reliable, accessible, maintainable and scalable software.
  • Secure Development, Documentation & Maintenance: Follow coding standards and secure-development policies, complete security training and raise potential vulnerabilities appropriately. Record issues, update project briefs and technical documentation, maintain reusable components and templates, and contribute to logging, monitoring, troubleshooting, release processes and effective handovers.
  • Project Delivery & Apprenticeship Development: Manage agreed tasks and priorities, communicate risks, blockers or changes in scope promptly, and work with support from the Engineering Manager and apprenticeship provider to follow a development plan, achieve competency milestones, act on feedback and maintain the evidence portfolio required for the Level 4 Software Development Apprenticeship.
