Spencer Academies Trust is a high-performing multi-academy trust based in the East Midlands, operating across Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire, Derby City, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. Since being established in 2011, the Trust has grown significantly and now educates over 18,000 pupils aged 3–18 across 26 academies, including primary, secondary and special schools. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about technology to begin their career in IT while supporting schools to deliver high-quality teaching and learning through reliable and innovative technology.

The successful apprentice will work closely with the Technology Support Manager and wider Trust IT team, gaining hands-on experience maintaining school IT systems and providing support to staff and students. Alongside the role, the apprentice will complete a Level 3 Information Communications Technician Apprenticeship delivered by Baltic Apprenticeships’ expert training team.

 

A Typical Day in the Job:

  • Supporting the Technology Support Manager to maintain reliable IT systems that support teaching, learning and administration.
  • Installing, maintaining and upgrading software across school devices.
  • Providing first-line support to staff and students, troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Assisting with repairs to IT equipment and coordinating maintenance where required.
  • Supporting the management of IT security and backup systems to help protect school data.
  • Ensuring software licensing is compliant with legal and organisational requirements.
  • Assisting with stock control and ordering IT equipment to ensure systems remain fully operational.
  • Advising staff on the use of technology and software to enhance teaching and learning.

Full training and support will be provided by your workplace mentor and from the Baltic team.

 

Salary, Hours & Benefits:

  • £14,722.50 – £24,784.50 per annum (depending on age/NMW guidelines)
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Flexible start time between 8am–9am
  • Early finish on Fridays
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Pension scheme
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • 45p per mile mileage allowance for additional travel

Desired Qualities, Skills and Knowledge:

  • A genuine passion for IT and technology
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to work well within a team
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Grade 4/C in Maths and Grade 5/C in English is required for this programme
  • A driving licence and access to a vehicle is required due to travel between Trust sites.
