Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation is offering an exciting opportunity for an IT Apprentice to join its supportive and experienced team. The Foundation is a unique organisation responsible for caring for the world’s first Garden City, managing property and investments and reinvesting income back into the local community to support a wide range of cultural, heritage, learning and leisure services across Letchworth Garden City.
The IT Apprentice will work closely with the Technology and Support team, gaining hands-on experience in a real working environment while providing IT support to staff across the organisation. The role will involve assisting with day-to-day IT operations, supporting hardware and software systems and learning how technology underpins the smooth running of services throughout the Foundation. The apprentice will be supported by experienced colleagues who are committed to providing guidance, mentoring and development.
Alongside the role, you will complete a structured apprenticeship programme delivered by Baltic Apprenticeships. This will include two-day training blocks every four to six weeks, providing dedicated time to develop technical knowledge, professional skills and industry understanding while gaining valuable practical experience in the workplace.
In this role, you’ll work towards your Level 3 Information Communications Technician qualification, delivered by our expert training team at Baltic Apprenticeships.
A Typical Day in the Job:
- Handle password resets, support the implementation of group policies, and assist with multi-factor authentication (MFA) and antivirus solutions as your apprenticeship progresses.
- Provide first-line support for users across the Microsoft stack, including Windows OS, Office 365, and SharePoint access. Utilise troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark to investigate issues.
- Configure and deploy laptops, Apple mobile devices, wireless keyboards and mice, and docking stations, ensuring devices are secure and ready for use. Support both wired and wireless network setups.
- Serve as the first point of contact for business users. Coordinate with the external IT helpdesk to resolve issues, update tickets in ServiceNow, and escalate to the IT Operations Manager or MSP when necessary.
- Assist with user account management, group policies, software installation, operating system updates, driver updates, and general system maintenance.
- Help remote users troubleshoot and connect via VPN, ensuring secure and reliable access to LGCHF systems.
- Provide basic support for telephony systems, including setup and troubleshooting of desk phones and mobile devices.
- Work with cloud applications such as SharePoint, OneDrive, and Salesforce. Introduce and apply basic scripting (batch scripts) to automate routine tasks as confidence develops.
Full training and support will be provided by your workplace mentor and from the team at Baltic Apprenticeships.
Desired Qualities, Skills and Knowledge
- Enthusiastic about technology and eager to learn.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Organised and proactive in solving problems.
- Knowledge and/or experience in setting up and repairing Windows 10/11 computers will be an asset.
- Networking knowledge will also be beneficial.
- A keen interest in IT and technology
- Grade 4 in GCSE Maths & Grade 5 in GCSE English.
Salary, Hours & Benefits:
- £16,500 per annum.
- 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.
This apprenticeship programme will provide you with everything you need to launch and develop your career in IT support. Afterwards, we’ll support you to take the next steps, including further training and progression onto a Level 4 qualification.
