Tell me about your role as a Sales & Recruitment Training Manager and your daily duties & responsibilities.
My role is to support the sales teams with their training needs to develop their skills and knowledge to meet personal, team and company objectives and goals. I use data to gain insights to be able to accurately identify where the training needs are, what training is working and what maybe isn’t working as well to ensure that everyone can receive the right tools and training to allow them to be the best they can be in their role.
Why did you choose to enrol on a Data Essentials apprenticeship?
I’ve always been quite confident in using our CRM systems to build reports and I’ve used Excel previously before but never to the extent that our data team used it. From seeing what they’ve been able to create and report on, I knew that these tools would be able to support me in doing my role more efficiently and accurately to report on training needs and identify areas that require attention as well as priority.

Can you share an example of how your apprenticeship has positively affected your role?
I started on a really small task to pull some data from the Account Relationship Manager team, this then turned into quite a big project when the data that I’d pulled told us a story and we could see where the needs for training were within each person, just from the data that I’d pulled and visualised in a way that we hadn’t looked into before in as much detail.
This will have a huge positive impact on this team in getting the training that they need to be able to support them in developing their knowledge but also the results for the team and the business as a whole.
I’m currently writing a deep dive report on this data so that we’re able to look into it on a more granular level and the insights have given us a really strong indicator of where the training is needed the most but also the training that will most suit each individual by a specific routeway. It’s allowing us to make much more tailored decisions that will bring in stronger results.
How does data help drive success within your organisation?
It means that we’re not guessing where the training needs are within teams or individuals and allows us to tailor the training schedules to suit those who will benefit from it most.
It also allows us to look deeper into stand out performers that are able to support us on delivering training sessions within the team and showcase their expert skills in areas that they also feel most confident in.
Overall, it’s given us a huge insight into the teams that we’ve never looked into previously so we’re able to make more data driven decisions and highlight the strengths and weaknesses to be able to work towards stronger, more consistent results!
