Course Content

The ability to manage computer systems is the foundation of any IT support role, but to do this, it is crucial to understand how they operate. This session will cover the basics of managing the hardware and software that make computers work, including client and server architecture.

In this interactive session, we’ll dive deeper into the physical architecture required to support common web functions. This course will introduce markup languages, such as HTML & CSS, and allow learners to get hands-on writing code before moving on to logical elements such as DNS and Protocols.

Understanding how computers interact with each other is essential, so this course will ensure that learners are familiar with common computer communication systems. By the end of these two sessions, learners will be able to identify security risks, threats, and mitigation. Learners will also understand a range of network security devices, such as Firewalls.

During these hands-on sessions, learners will put their new knowledge to the test in a Microsoft Azure virtual lab. Here, we’ll cover how to configure IT systems to industry standards with relevant policies and permissions.

Grading, International Qualifications & Residency Status

We request that you have passed Maths and English at GCSE to be eligible for our Skills Bootcamps. If you currently don’t meet the minimum grades, you can study for GCSEs or Level 2 Functional Skills through your local college or other training providers.

If you studied outside of the UK, we may need to verify that your qualifications are a suitable equivalent to our minimum required grades. To do this, you’ll need to apply for a Statement of Comparability from UK ENIC, the national agency for international qualifications and skills. This generally costs around £50, and you’ll need copies of your qualifications to make an application.

Skills Bootcamps are funded via the Department of Education. Therefore, there are some restrictions on who can be funded. To be considered for a Skills Bootcamp, you must have the right to work in England and have eligible residency status.

The highlight for me so far has been completing my Level 3 apprenticeship to Distinction level, which resulted in me being promoted to an IT Technician. This is something that I was proud of and it has given me a massive confidence boost.

There’s a way I describe the approach I took in training Sarah, I pushed her out to sea and let her swim but I was always there with a life raft if she needed a hand. With this approach, she’s just gone from strength to strength. I always said to Sarah, give it a go, if you break something I’m pretty sure we can fix it! Now, she stands on her own two feet quite comfortably.
