What does your role involve?

My role is all about engaging with businesses in Newcastle to identify and create opportunities for young people, and provide a structured CPD model for existing teams. I do a lot of networking, acting as a main point of contact for tech apprenticeships and using valuable industry knowledge to ensure that we deliver and manage a quality training solution for businesses in the North East.

What skills, experience or services can you offer North East businesses?

I’ve been with Baltic Apprenticeships since 2014, so I’ve been immersed in the world of apprenticeships for over 6 years. In that time, I’ve built up a wealth of knowledge and experience within the IT and Digital industries, and have a solid understanding of what works when it comes to addressing the digital skills gap in the region. Giving businesses the confidence to succeed with apprenticeships is a big part of what we offer at Baltic. I’ll always help in any way possible, or point in the direction of someone who can.

What’s the best bit about your job?

Finding the right training opportunity for a young person or existing member of staff. I get huge job satisfaction from seeing someone complete their apprenticeship and further their career!

What’s your North East hidden gem?

High Force. Lovely views, nice picnic places and a class stroll around.

Who is your tech hero?

Peter Jones. He created the Enterprise Academy and Tycoon in Schools to be able to help young people understand their worth and give them the confidence to further their career.

What’s your favourite local landmark?

Alnwick Castle! They have some great events there too, I loved the drive-in cinema… I went to see The Lion King there!

What’s your go-to Karaoke tune?

Callum Scott, Dancing on My Own

Potentially divisive… but what’s your North East football allegiance?

Hartlepool, sorry guys!

What does the future hold for the North East tech sector?

This is a very exciting time. Over the past 5 years the North East Tech scene has grown by 45%. There are over 35,000 jobs in tech. What we’re seeing in the North East tech sector creates so many opportunities for young people to shine and businesses to thrive with the right talent.

How can a Baltic Apprentice change the world?

We provide the tools for our apprentices to be able to change their career, influencing their workplace and boosting the local economy. Our apprentices could be future tech leaders in the North East… watch this space!!
