Oak Tyres is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Software Developer Apprentice who is eager to learn and develop a career in technology. The ideal candidate will be proactive, curious, and keen to build their skills in a real-world business environment. A positive attitude and willingness to learn are essential, as full support and guidance will be provided.
The successful apprentice will work within a supportive and collaborative development team, where knowledge sharing and personal development are actively encouraged. The team environment is welcoming and designed to help apprentices grow in confidence and capability.
As part of the apprenticeship, the individual will receive structured training through Baltic Apprenticeships, including two-day training blocks every 6–8 weeks. This blended approach allows the apprentice to gain hands-on experience while developing technical knowledge and professional skills alongside industry experts.
In this role, you’ll work towards your Level 3 Software Development Technician qualification, delivered by our expert training team at Baltic Apprenticeships.
A Typical Day in the Job:
- Participate in the design, development, testing, and development of software applications and services.
- Write clean, efficient, well-documented, and testable code.
- Assist in troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving software defects and issues.
- Collaborate with team members, including developers, testers, product owners, and business analysts.
- Follow secure development practices and maintain a focus on performance, sociability, and security.
- Take part in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospective meetings.
- Contribute to the documentation of software components, APIs, and system architecture.
- Support deployment activities and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) processes.
- Stay current with new technologies, tools, and development practices.
Full training and support will be provided by your workplace mentor and from the team at Baltic Apprenticeships.
Desired Qualities, Skills and Knowledge
- Proficient in at least one modern programming language (e.g. JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, C#, Java).
- Frameworks/Tools: Exposure to common development frameworks (e.g. React, Angular, .NET).
- Version Control: Comfortable using Git and platforms like GitHub or GitLab.
- Databases: Basic understanding of SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
- Familiar with unit testing and integration testing principles.
- Able to analyse problems and develop simple, scalable solutions.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to collaborate in a team setting and receive constructive feedback.
- Grade 6 in GCSE Maths & Grade 4 in GCSE English.
Salary, Hours & Benefits:
- £21,500 per annum.
- 8:30am-4:45pm Monday to Friday.
- 23 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
This apprenticeship programme will provide you with everything you need to launch and develop your career in software development. Afterwards, we’ll support you to take the next steps, including further training and progression onto a Level 4 qualification.
