This Level 4 Software Development Apprenticeship offers the chance to turn curiosity for coding and systems into a rewarding and dynamic career. Through a structured programme combining hands-on experience with expert mentorship, the apprentice will develop core skills in software design, development, testing, and deployment while contributing to real-world projects that power integrations between major business systems.

Working with the experienced engineering team at Zynk, the apprentice will gain practical experience with modern development tools and data integration technologies while helping businesses connect their e-commerce, CRM, and accounting systems through innovative solutions.

In this role, you’ll work towards your Level 4 Software Development, delivered by our expert training team at Baltic Apprenticeships.

 

A Typical Day in the Job:

  • Design, build, and maintain data integration workflows using the Zynk Workflow Integration Platform (iPaaS), helping connect systems such as e-commerce platforms, CRMs, and accounting software.
  • Work with experienced developers to understand the full software development lifecycle, learning coding standards, debugging techniques, testing practices, and secure development methods.
  • Develop and extend components within the Zynk platform, writing C# code to create task adapters, connectors, and utilities that integrate with APIs, databases, and file systems.
  • Build and maintain data transformation logic using XML schemas, XSLT stylesheets, and JSON mappings to translate between different system data models.
  • Apply modern integration patterns such as publish/subscribe, request/reply, and event-driven workflows across both cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Perform a variety of testing methods including unit, integration, and functional testing, while learning how to monitor integrations through logging, metrics, and performance diagnostics.
  • Collaborate with solution architects, engineers, and internal teams to gather requirements, estimate work, and continuously improve integration solutions.
  • Contribute to documentation, internal knowledge sharing, and development best practices within a collaborative engineering team.

Full training and support will be provided by your workplace mentor and from the Baltic team.

Salary, Hours & Benefits:

  • Salary: £16,000 starting salary, rising to £18,000 after probation
  • Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (37.5 hours per week, with some flexibility)
  • Location: Office-based in Newcastle upon Tyne
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays

Desired Qualities, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Passion for software development and technology
  • An interest in coding and problem-solving
  • Exposure to C# or similar programming languages is beneficial
  • Interest in working with APIs, data integration, or system connectivity
  • Portfolio of personal or academic projects is advantageous
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Innovative mindset and willingness to learn
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English is required for this programme
