Introduction to AI

We’re committed to building sought-after critical AI skills and preparing our learners for the new digital economy, so all our apprentices are enrolled on our Introduction to AI course.

The most notable barrier for businesses looking to introduce AI into daily operations is a lack of internal AI skills, with a quarter of organisations reporting that they struggle to find employees with the necessary skills to implement and manage AI technologies.

Our interactive 3-part course provides our learners with a comprehensive overview of AI; understanding its origins, categories, and capabilities. Learners will understand use cases for AI models, and be able to successfully implement appropriate models into their role while following relevant ethical regulations.

CompTIA Certifications

We’ve partnered with CompTIA to elevate our apprenticeship training. CompTIA is a global leader in tech training, shaping the future tech workforce through groundbreaking industry training and certifications.

Your apprentice will benefit from additional IT network and security training and gain an additional industry-recognised certification, ensuring they are at the forefront of modern industry advancements and well-equipped to make valuable contributions to your team.

We offer both CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certifications. Network+ covers the core skills required to support any network environment, while Security+ equips learners with essential cybersecurity skills – both provide your apprentice with a qualification that is recognised as the industry standard, designed to validate knowledge of essential tools and concepts.

Apprenticeship Funding

There is a range of government funding and local authority grant schemes available, which are designed to help you train the next wave of talent or invest in your team’s professional development.

Large organisations with an annual salary bill over £3 million are required to contribute to the Apprenticeship Levy. The Apprenticeship Levy is a dedicated apprenticeship fund, which employers can use to cover the costs of apprenticeship training and assessment.

For SMEs & Microbusinesses that do not pay into the Apprenticeship Levy, the Government will fund 100% of apprenticeship training and assessment costs for apprentices aged 16 – 21 and 95% for apprentices aged 22 and over.

TECHNICAL TRAINING

The technical training component of our Level 4 Network Engineer apprenticeship is split into seven practice-led courses. Each practice-led course is then delivered across two days.

COURSE 1

This course covers the fundamentals of networking, from theoretical frameworks to practical applications and security considerations. We cover network models (OSI & TCP/IP), addressing systems, switching and routing principles, and the use of network tools.

Over two days, learners will:

  • Identify the roles and functions of various network protocols and understand how ports direct traffic to specific services.
  • Grasp network hardware functions, deployment & maintenance best practices, and network software, understanding their role in functionality & management.
  • Understand how switches manage data flow within networks and learn different switching techniques.
  • Design and configure network addresses to optimise network efficiency, support scalability, and meet future business and security needs.

COURSE 2

This course prepares learners to step into management roles by developing professional skills, service management practices and advanced technical knowledge. Participants learn to prioritise and organise client and stakeholder requests, negotiate service level agreements (SLAs) and understand their responsibilities for securing infrastructure and complying with regulatory requirements.

Over two days, learners will:

  • Learn how to draft and negotiate SLAs that define key performance indicators, roles and responsibilities, and service quality standards, while also monitoring and reporting on compliance.
  • Explore the network engineer’s role in cybersecurity and legislation, including threat mitigation, regulatory frameworks, and risk management practices.
  • Prioritise and resolve network issues in line with organisational responsibilities.

COURSE 3

In this practical course, we explore modern physical and virtual networking environments, focusing on network optimisation, cloud infrastructure, and service integration. Learners gain skills to design, configure and maintain networks that support scalable, resilient business services while minimising downtime

Over two days, learners will:

  • Master the use of physical and virtual network components (such as routers, switches, firewalls and virtual network interfaces) and media (cabling and wireless) to build robust, adaptable networks.
  • Explore cloudcomputing and virtualisation technologies to increase scalability, flexibility and costeffectiveness in network design and management.
  • Integrate and manage network services, such as DNS, DHCP and authentication, into existing environments to ensure performance, availability and security.

COURSE 4

This hands on course builds practical skills in proactive network management, focusing on troubleshooting, proactive maintenance and intelligent automation. Learners explore tools and techniques – both traditional and AI powered- to diagnose issues quickly, reduce downtime and maintain high performance across complex network environments.

Over two days, learners will:

  • Analyse and evaluate maintenance and troubleshooting strategies to determine their effectiveness in different operational contexts.
  • Gain practical experience with diagnostic tools used to monitor network performance, identify faults and optimise operations.
  • Explore and integrate automated and AIpowered tools to streamline network tasks, improve accuracy and reduce manual intervention.

COURSE 5

This course explores critical network security topics and provides threat mitigation techniques that maintain performance standards while adhering to legal requirements. Participants gain technical skills and knowledge to safeguard IT assets against evolving security threats.

Over two days, learners will:

  • Identify and understand various threats to networks and IT infrastructure and recognise how these threats impact organisational security.
  • Implement and manage security measures such as firewalls and antimalware solutions to protect against unauthorised access and potential harm.
  • Develop, implement and enforce organisational policies related to security, such as computer misuse and internet access guidelines.

COURSE 6

BENEFITS OF APPRENTICESHIPS

“Over 10 years ago, we quite quickly figured out that for the business to grow we needed to have some of the next generation of engineers. We looked around and apprentices seemed to be the best way to do that.

Any forward-thinking company, especially in the IT sector, needs to think about how they would attract and retain talent.

One of the key benefits that apprenticeships have had on Resolve is, is that we’ve had the ability to have young, fresh, new talent come into the organisation and then progress through the organisation.”
