Michael Carrick - Curriculum Manager

[Trainers and Assessors]

I worked in the IT Training / Apprenticeship industry for 5 years before landing at Baltic. An opportunity came up to join Baltic when I was unhappy working at another provider and I jumped at the chance to join.

I hold a number of technical qualifications from vendors like CompTIA and Microsoft. I also have a degree in Information and Communication Management and a PGCE in ICT Education.

I have been in numerous training roles ranging from junior to senior trainer before progressing to my current role as Curriculum Manager. Earlier in my career I also worked in facilities management and customer service roles - all of which have helped me learn crucial skills that I apply to my current role and previous roles within training.

Networking and Operating Systems would be my biggest area of strength, but I do hold a number of qualifications in various things such as:- Windows 7/8/10 and Server 2008 R2- Network+- A+Through my role here at Baltic I have also been able to work on several skills including learning more about the world of Digital Marketing, Business Analysis and Project Management.

Working at Baltic

I have been at Baltic since July 2014. This time has genuinely flown over.

In my current role of Curriculum Manager my biggest responsibilities are to develop, and oversee the development, of our training resources for the apprenticeships that we offer. This involves working with members of my team on resources such as mock exams and study guides, putting together the training weeks that are delivered and working with other trainers who have specialist skills in areas where they would be better placed to develop courses.

Being able to have such a major impact on the learning and development of our apprentices, seeing how they take on board new skills and knowledge and put these in to practice in knowledge module exams, practical work, end point assessment and in their job role.

Hearing from past (or current) apprentices how the training they received during their apprenticeship has helped them progress in their workplace or in their career. I love to read and hear success stories.

I have progressed from a trainer, to a senior trainer and then finally to becoming curriculum manager. In my role as senior trainer I was asked to help update many courses and my role of curriculum manager developed from this.
