Jane Ridley - Programme Assessor

Topic

[Trainers and Assessors]

Background

I was wanting to get into assessing but didn’t have the relevant qualification, when I saw the advert for a junior assessor it seemed the perfect opportunity.

I have a degree in crime scene science and also a PGCE in numeracy specialism.

I previously taught maths at Newcastle College and before this was a Bookmakers clerk in a betting shop and on racecourses.

Working at Baltic

I have been at Baltic since September 2016.

I assess the apprentices and check their progress throughout by having 6 weekly contact, I am also here to provide pastoral care and any worries they may have in between the reviews.

I enjoy seeing the progress and confidence growing as they go through their apprenticeships.

I started out as a junior and inducted the apprenticeships and delivered workshops to them both face to face and online, as well as having a small case load of learners, I now have just the case load of learners.

I received an outstanding grade in my last 3 observations which I am very proud of.

#1 Item on Bucket List

To visit Las Vegas and to sail on a yacht.

Interesting Fact

My family name is advertised on the last fence at Sedgefield and Newcastle race course.

Greatest Achievement

My greatest achievement is completing my PGCE with a merit, whilst working full time alongside it.

Hobbies and Interests

I like to go horse riding and used to own my own horses until last year, I learnt to ride on my first horse when I was 13 and we had 16 happy years together.

I also like to go out for meals and spend time with family, friends and my 2 rescue cats.
