Helen Coates - Adair - Senior Assessor

[Trainers and Assessors]

I gained a degree in Business Management and Administration in 2004 I decided to do this course as it covered a vast majority of subjects such as employment law, HR, events planning to strategic planning and quantitative analysis to name a few. I thought this would open up many different opportunities to which it has.

I have worked in a number of different roles from working in a bar, working in Asda and working for hotels which are small independent to multi-national chains such as Premier Inn (Travel Inn back in my day) to working as front desk operator for Walt Disney World Deluxe Resorts in Florida. This role was really enjoyable as I gained a lot of skills both front and back office. This led me to my present role as customer service and business admin assessor.

I originally trained and achieved my assessor qualification with another training provide which wasn’t the greatest experience but it led me and helped my gain a role within another training provider PTS – it was after my first interview with PTS it was announced that they were being bought by Baltic so I interviewed with a manager from Baltic and was successful in gaining a position. The rest we will say is history!

Working at Baltic

I have worked for Baltic for more than 9 years (9 years and 4 months to be precise) and I was taken on a Business Admin and Customer Service Assessor, within my time I have also assessed Team Leading and Management qualifications but these were only for a short period of time. My role at present is varied and while I transition from BA/CS to IT I am still working with learners to gain their qualifications in BA and CS along with training and supporting them to gain their necessary functional skills.

I provide one to one support for all learners and make sure that their individual needs are met and that they understand the content of their programme. I also support the business by invigilating exams on a Friday (this will finish with this role shortly but have enjoyed it). I have been support the Scotland learners to achieve their IT qualifications which has given me a taste of the IT programmes, my role has changed significantly over the last 6 months and am looking forward to the new role ahead of me.

The thing I enjoy the most about my job is the interaction with different people and the ability to support them in what they need. I have many good memories while working for Baltic.

#1 Item on Bucket List

I would love to learn how to fly a plane or even be a passenger in a fighter jet. I see the exercises going on at Catterick when driving down the A1 and think that experience and feeling of the speed would be amazing.

Interesting Fact

While working for Disney my main role was front desk operator. I was able to pick up shifts doing other things and to date have played a candy cane and a pirate in their special events. Contrary to what Andy Kidger likes to tell people I have never been Minnie Mouse!

Greatest Achievement

Buying a house and renovating it from nothing – seeing the vision that you want for your home come to life.

Hobbies and Interests

My favourite thing to do is to travel. I enjoy cruising and waking up in a different places every day.
