Dan Troke - National Training Manager

[Trainers and Assessors]

I have worked in training since about 2006, moving into technical apprenticeships in 2008. I was offered an opportunity to manage a very talented bunch of Trainers here at Baltic, an opportunity I could not refuse. Joining Baltic has been an amazing experience working with such a good team.

Having studied Molecular Biology (obviously) at University, it was a few years later that I realised my passion working with technology and then had the chance to combine it with training. Alongside a professional teaching qualification I hold Several CompTIA certifications including A+, Network+, Server+ and Security+ as well as a collection of Microsoft Certifications. I also hold an introductory certificate in British Sign Language.

I have worked in numerous training roles across a few different training providers. I also have worked as an IT manager for a small organisation in Leeds. Oh, aside from my previous training roles I have also 2 years experience working in a fairly confidential role substituting for a significant festive character in a Christmas Grotto. I cannot say much else except that it was a seasonal role, I look great in red and I did get access to the Naughty List!

My core strengths are in IT Infrastructure disciplines including Networking, hardware and operating systems as well as Cyber Security. Over the years I have developed understanding of other areas including some coding, a little project management and I am proud to say I am also a certified Microsoft Office Master.

Working at Baltic

I have spent 12 months so far on my Baltic adventure, and have loved every second of the journey so far.

I am currently the Technical Training Manager, overseeing the work of our crack team of Technical Trainers. I work closely with the training team to set and maintain high standards of training delivery whilst liaising with other parts of the business supporting the curriculum development team and assessors when needed. I love the fact that on occasion I still get to role my metaphorical sleeves up and get into the classroom to teach, something I have always enjoyed and been passionate about.

At Baltic we often talk about changing lives and encouraging people to #BeTheFuture (I love that Hashtag!) The heart of Baltic is about helping people change lives - this can be apprentices starting their careers, or colleagues within the business as they grow and develop - and I simply love it.

Watching one of our junior trainers progress and develop so quickly into a really good trainer has been really special. (I said changing lives isn't just about the lives of apprentices).

The team has evolved even in the 12 months I have been here. We have introduced and are introducing new programmes so I have had a focus on developing Cyber Security skills and knowledge in the team. Our Cyber Security programme looks really exciting - I am so proud to have been part of being ready for it.

#1 Item on Bucket List

I have always wanted to go on Safari and also explore some of the more remote regions of East Asia.

Other than my Children?I think seeing 5 kids safely reach adulthood without any major disaster is a great achievement.

Hobbies and Interests

I am a passionate football supporter with a love for Southampton FC. Outside of work I love spending time with my children whether that is my adult kids or my 20 month old daughter.
