SME Funding: Teesside Apprenticeship Wage Subsidy Now Available

Teesside SMEs are about to see a boost in financial support for apprenticeships, thanks to a new funding scheme from the Tees Valley Combined Authority. In response to Coronavirus and the concerns of local employers, TVCA has earmarked a £1m fund to subsidise the wages of around 100 new apprentices across the region.
Through this scheme, employers can fund 100% of apprentices’ wages for the first 6 months of their programme, followed by 50% funding for the rest of the apprenticeship, up to a maximum of 2 years.
This scheme has the potential to transform the way that Teesside businesses recruit and develop their team, creating sustainable, high quality career opportunities for young people in the area and strengthening the talent pipeline right here in Teesside.
Am I eligible?
The wage subsidy fund is open to SME businesses based in the Tees Valley area, covering Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton-On-Tees. Funding is available for new apprentices, enrolling on a Level 3 apprenticeship programme in the following priority sectors:
For this scheme, apprentices must be aged 16-20, and the Combined Authority recommend that apprentices are paid the National Minimum Wage rather than the lower National Apprenticeship Minimum Wage – which is fantastic news for candidates!
