This summer, change is coming to Baltic Apprenticeships as we launch a series of exciting updates to our digital and tech apprenticeship programmes.

The Institute for Apprenticeships have released brand new Apprenticeship Standards for some of our most popular programmes, including IT, software and data.

At Baltic, we're huge fans of change. In an ever-evolving digital sector, it's exciting to see these new standards reflecting the skills and knowledge that our employers are looking to cultivate in their teams.

As we welcome the new standards, we've also taken the opportunity to make a few extra improvements to our curriculum. We've boosted our training offer on each new programme with courses that take learning beyond the Apprenticeship Standard. We've also optimised the way we deliver our programmes, meaning our learners can do much more, more quickly.

We hope you're as excited about these new programmes as we are!

Available Now: Our New Programmes

In June 2021, new Apprenticeship Standards were released for the following programmes:

  • Level 4 Software Developer: This updated qualification equips software professionals with the knowledge and skills they need to create and project manage effect software solutions. This course is structured around the software development lifecycle and offers a flexible choice of modules to suit different roles and organisations. Choices include database development, web development, OOP, and software testing.

  • Level 4 Network Engineer: This programme has been redesigned to reflect the expanding role of the cloud in network management. This programme uses a new approach to online training, combining expert-led video courses with hands-on lab sessions. Learners can put theory into practice right away in a secure test environment. The programme includes core modules based around the CompTIA Network+ and Security+ syllabus, as well as your choice of cloud platform training. Later in the programme, learners can specialise in advanced cloud networks or network security. This programme offers a flexible professional development route to suit individual roles, goals and business needs.

  • Level 4 Data Analyst: We reintroduced Data Analyst in October 2020 to address the explosive demand for data professionals in the UK. We're really excited to introduce our fresh updates to the programme, in line with the new Apprenticeship Standard. This updated programme delivers hands-on training with the tools and technologies used by industry professionals. We've also added new modules, including data visualisation, SQL for data analysis, R, and Python - covering everything from data modelling to ethical data use. With our bespoke combination of expert training and heroic support, this advanced programme will transform anyone with a passion for data into a confident, effective data analyst.

Coming Soon: August Starts for New IT support & Networking Apprenticeships

One of the biggest changes currently in motion is the retirement of the Level 3 Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship Standard. This apprenticeship was launched in 2016 and has been one of our most popular programmes, kickstarting careers for hundreds of IT apprentices.

While we wave goodbye to this programme, we can wait to welcome its successors!

These two programmes follow the new Information Communications Technician Apprenticeship Standard, but are delivered through two different training routes.

Alongside some shared modules which establish an excellent foundation of IT knowledge, these programmes offer specialist training and work-based projects to align with either an IT Support or Network Technician role.

These exciting courses have been developed to create expert IT professionals with exceptional problem-solving skills. Through our mix of training and support, we empower apprentices to unlock their potential and develop confidence alongside detailed technical knowledge.

Other Improvements: Our Curriculum Updates

We've been busy making some exciting adjustments to optimise our training experience, including:

  • Accelerated Technical Training: We now deliver our technical training modules within the first 6 months of our programmes. This means our learners are equipped with the full standard of skills and knowledge much earlier in their programme than before. From month 6 onwards, learners are encouraged to apply their skills and build further knowledge through workplace projects and competency workshops.

  • Additional Specialist Training: We've boosted our curriculum with additional training courses which take our apprentices' knowledge beyond the Apprenticeship Standard. These extra courses can be found in the Specialist Training sections of our course guides, with many offering a choice between several pathways to create a bespoke training and development plan for your apprentice.

  • Specialist Learning Mentors: Unlike many training providers, Baltic Learning Mentors are programme specific. This means that our apprentices are supported throughout their programme by a mentor who is a subject matter expert, and who understands their industry.
