The first cohort of our Dive into Data Bootcamp graduates are ripe and ready to take the next steps in their skills development journey with Baltic Apprenticeships. Our learners are about to complete their 8-12 week data skills bootcamp, and are looking for apprenticeships in data, software development and digital marketing.

Our learners come from a wide variety of backgrounds and professional experiences, ranging from the armed forces to the NHS, the heritage sector, mechanical engineering, recruitment, electronics, and IT.

They are united by their new-found passion for data, problem-solving and the insights that analysis can provide – and hope to continue their journey with a digital apprenticeship.

We’re looking for West Yorkshire businesses to take on our star candidates in junior data, digital marketing, and software development roles. Not only can our Bootcamp graduates hit the ground running with their new expertise, but you can claim £3000 in government grants to add them to your team!

What is the Dive into Data Bootcamp?

The Dive into Data Bootcamp is a pilot scheme funded by the Department for Education and West Yorkshire Combined Authority as part of the FutureGoals skills training initiative.

This innovative, rapid-response scheme gave anyone aged 19+ in the West Yorkshire area with the opportunity to develop basic data analysis skills and techniques for free.

The programme was open to those seeking work or looking to take their career further, with a particular focus on disadvantaged groups including women, people from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, and those unemployed due to Covid-19.

What did Dive into Data Participants Learn?

Baltic Apprenticeships developed a flexible 8-12 week curriculum to upskill and reskill participants in the latest data analysis tools and techniques.

In weekly sessions, led by our specialist data trainers and digital career coaches, our learners developed the following knowledge and skills:

  • Project Management & Critical Thinking
  • Data Modelling
  • Database Development
  • Data Representation, Manipulation and Communication
  • Industry Insights
  • Workplace Professionalism

Participants could also supplement their learning with access to self-paced training courses in Python, SQL, Digital Marketing, Public Speaking, and Machine Learning.

What can a bootcamp alumni apprentice add to your organisation?

With these coding, data analysis, and communication skills under their belt, Dive into Data bootcamp graduates have built excellent foundations for a career in the tech sector.

The bootcamp has offered learners a taster of the knowledge and skills required to thrive in the tech industry, which can be readily applied to the following apprenticeship programmes:

Unlike a school-leaver apprentice, our candidates come with their own unique experiences and professional backgrounds. They are driven and dedicated to forging a new career within their chosen industry.

Meet Our Candidates:

Our candidates will be ready to start new roles from April, when the bootcamp comes to an end. Before then, here’s a sneak peak of just some of the amazing people we’re working with!

The Data Analyst:

Cathy, from Huddersfield, has a varied background in IT and Software, and is looking to transition into the data sector after a career break. They have found the data bootcamp a fantastic opportunity to revitalise their knowledge as well as learn some new skills.

Throughout the pandemic, Cathy has grabbed every opportunity for self-development, as well as working as an NHS Volunteer Responder. Cathy is an approachable team player, seeking an exciting opportunity to train for a data career with an apprenticeship programme.

The Software Developer:

Aqib, from Bradford, is eager to get into the tech industry. They have worked with online courses to develop coding skills for the last couple of years and are familiar with C, Python, HTML5 and CSS. Now, thanks to the Dive into Data bootcamp, they are getting to grips with SQL.

This learner is looking for a software development role and feels that an apprenticeship is the best route into this exciting industry. In their spare time, they enjoy hiking and baking (with cookies being a particular speciality).

The Digital Marketer:

Kwadwo, from Leeds, is looking to move into Digital Marketing. They have a professional background as a financial co-ordinator for a national heritage organisation, with experience of handling complex numerical data. They are using the Dive into Data bootcamp to build their knowledge, expand their skills and apply data analysis techniques to a marketing role.

They have undertaken initial marketing training via the Google Digital Garage and are keen to pursue a career in this field. They describe themselves as a conscientious person, who enjoys the great outdoors whilst feeling equally at home in the boxing ring!
