CORE MODULES

These two core training modules will equip you with an extensive understanding of creating, maintaining and securing networks:

COURSE 1: COMPTIA NETWORK+

This course covers the fundamentals of network installation, configuration and management. The training includes network architecture, cabling and topology, advanced networking devices, virtualization, and cloud computing.

This course includes a CompTIA Network+ Exam Voucher and official CompTIA eBook for further study and revision.

COURSE 2: COMPTIA SECURITY+

This course empowers Network Engineers to understand network vulnerabilities and eliminate common security threats. The training includes risk management, cryptography, authentication and authorisation, and wireless, cloud and mobile security.

This course includes a CompTIA Security+ Exam Voucher and official CompTIA eBook for further study and revision.

COURSE 3: CHOOSE YOUR CLOUD PLATFORM

Choose between the three biggest cloud platforms for this training component, and create a bespoke learning plan that responds to your skills needs and your organisation’s cloud technology choices.

  • Azure Training: Microsoft Azure Administrator
  • AWS Training: AWS Cloud Practitioner
  • Google Cloud Training: Google Cloud Platform - Associate Cloud Engineer
SPECIALIST PATHWAY

In the second part of your training, you’ll have the opportunity to customise your training plan even further with a choice of two specialist pathways. These choices align with different responsibilities and career ambitions within the scope of the Network Engineer job role.

SPECIALIST PATHWAY 1: CLOUD NETWORKS

Learners specialising in Cloud Networks can choose to build skills with either Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Platform. These additional online courses sharpen skills and deepen expertise; moving beyond the requirements of this Apprenticeship Standard.

  • Azure Pathway: AZ-303 Azure Architecture Technologies
  • AWS Pathway: AWS SysOp Adminstrator and AWS Solutions Architect
  • Google Cloud Pathway: Professional Cloud Architect

SPECIALIST PATHWAY 2: NETWORK SECURITY

The Network Security specialism is for learners looking to develop their skills in security architecture, threat management, cyber incident response planning and penetration testing. This specialist pathway includes two courses:

  • CompTIA CySA+
  • CompTIA Pentest+

These two courses focus on hands-on, technical details within the cybersecurity field, including cyber threats, risk management and pen testing. Ideal for developing in-house network security expertise.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

After mastering the technical training courses, learners will implement their new skills through practical workplace projects and interactive competency workshops.

WORKPLACE PROJECTS

Throughout the apprenticeship programme, you’ll bring your technical training to life through a series of Workplace Projects:

  • Workplace Project 1: Role of a Network Engineer
  • Workplace Project 2: Network Security and Maintenance
  • Workplace Project 3: Network Troubleshooting and Repair
  • Workplace Projects 4 & 5: Implementing Network Solutions

These Workplace Projects form a portfolio of evidence that is discussed at EPA.

EPA PREPARATION: IMPLEMENTING NETWORK SOLUTIONS

This course brings together the key concepts of network principles, network security and network architecture to prepare apprentices for their End Point Assessment (EPA).

Role Overview: Network Engineer

People in this role work with hardware and software to set up networks and ensure systems operate effectively, anticipating and troubleshooting issues.

A Network Engineer’s role varies across organisations: they can be customer facing or work on internal projects. Network Engineers can specialise in many different areas, such as infrastructure installation, customer support, cloud networks, or network security.

Whether you’re taking on cloud installation and management, or interested in addressing cybersecurity vulnerabilities within a network, this Level 4 programme has advanced technical training to suit your goals!
