You will work to achieve required security outcomes in a legal and regulatory context in all parts of the economy. Your role will involve security design and architecture security testing, investigations and response.

Unit 1
Cyber Security Introduction

This unit is delivered over 4 days through the Smart Classroom, followed by a 1 day exam at a local test centre.

This course is a gentle introduction to cyber security and is the core element of the apprenticeship. It covers the foundation knowledge that is essential for most cyber security roles.

  • Security concepts applied to ICT cyber infrastructure

Unit 2
Network And Digital Communications

This unit is delivered over 4 days through the Smart Classroom, followed by a 1 day exam at a local test centre.

This course is a general introduction to modern computer networks covering the essentials of network and digital communications theory.

  • Network data and protocols

  • Network routing protocols
  • Network performance
Unit 3
Employment of Cryptography

This unit is delivered over 4 days through the Smart Classroom, followed by a 1 day exam at a local test centre.

This course provides learners a general introduction to the deployment of cryptography. It covers the theory and application of methods available to secure information, computers and networks, as well as legal issues involved with cryptography.

  • Theory of cryptographic techniques

Unit 4
Security Case Development and Design Good Practice

This unit is delivered over 4 days through the Smart Classroom, followed by a 1 day exam at a local test centre.

This unit is an advanced unit that is focused on security case development. The unit builds on the fundamentals learned in the cyber security introduction course.

  • IT Security Design Principles 
  • Demonstrate the difference between enterprise architecture and security architecture and explain where their physical and logical boundaries may exist
  • Explain the purpose and features of the Common Criteria evaluation model
  • Considering the Security Case, interpret what security measures should apply
  • Produce a Security Case for a known system
Unit 5
Security Technology Building Blocks

This unit is delivered over 4 days through the Smart Classroom, followed by a 1 day exam at a local test centre.

This unit provides a general introduction to modern computer networks and covers the essential building blocks of security technology.

  • Host-based Security
  • Network-based Security
  • Application of Security for Software and Data
  • Management of Network Security and Risk in Networked Systems
Functional Skills

This is subject to evidence provided.

  • Level 2 - Maths
  • Level 2 - English

Learners who require Functional Skills will be supported using the Smart Classroom and the sessions will last half a day each. Exams will be held in a local test centre.
